Ceremony

4/17/17

It is in this space that I fail

intended for a chance pass

with a soul who can see my humanity

words and works not meant

to be commodities

but precious eggs

fertilized by experiences of love.

How objective can we be in this

constant society of spectacles?

I can be inspired by the full moon

the glow of dusk

the shy acquiescence in a smile

an animal’s quiet beauty.

Do I need mass media?

Does it make us more informed citizens?

Or more conformed citizens?

Can we not see what it is a means to our end?

When did we find comfort in formula?

Where is the balance and unconditioned drala?

I suffer from the absence

of true connection that comes

from absolute senses untouched

by false realities.

The beauty of a ceremony

is that it has been tried before

but the right ingredients and events

unfold spontaneously,

whispered by a medicine woman

like potent incense trailing up to a

starless night sky.

Linchpin

During my vacation in Mexico in March and spring break from graduate school, I had a chance to read “Linchpin” by Seth Godin, an essential read for anyone in the workforce today but especially for marketing professionals. The concepts that anyone can be an artist with work that brings about change, to be aware of our “lizard brain” and our higher mental abilities as well as the powerful exchange of gifts to bring abundance are wonderful to me. Mr. Godin gives relevant examples of these concepts in play during his professional and personal life that really bring home the concept of the linchpin as an indispensable force vital to her industry, society and team. If you have a chance I encourage everyone to give this book a read.

Riviera Maya

3/21/17

Los pájaros el la mañana

son muy sonoros

negro, feliz, libre.

me rodea.

Me sentí tranquila, cansada pero

contenta, áspero pero suave,

como una concha lava del olas

del mar, cambió, bonita, único.

__________________________

The birds in the morning

are very sonorous

black, happy, free.

They tell me, welcome!

I turn to my love in the bed

I kiss him on his forehead and

I close my eyes and listen.

The foam falls about the rocks on the beach

it looks like a dance.

The salt in the air, on my skin

all create my dreams

like a mother creates love

for her children.

My hands, my body swims

in the warm ocean, aqua blue water

surrounds me.

I felt calm, tired but

content, rough but smooth

like a sea shell washed by the waves

of the sea, changed, pretty, unique.

Be the snow

2/23/17

I want to walk among the

snowflakes and just be.

Adopt floating feelings

not fleeing just seeing.

Follow their directions into

new resurrections when

the wind picks up

ushering fractals into

space or ground to melt.

Let me melt like them into

this sphere and feel the love

so temporary, the heart knows.

This snow is telling,

quiet flurries that mirror life.

Don’t wish it away,

here & now, let’s stay.

Reflections DJ Mix

reflections-mix

2016 has come to a close and I’m happy that on the last day of the year I recorded a mix of some songs that I love and am ecstatic to share. The songs are a reflection of feelings and emotions I felt and related to because of events in my life and in the word in the past year. Music helps me remember that we are all more similar and connected than we realize. These songs are all dub, deep dubstep, glitch, bass and electronic cream of the crop gems. Enjoy!

Bike Ride

mckaylake

11/8/2016

As I ride past McKay Lake

a whir of burnt yellow

soft orange, cerulean glass

ripples, reeds reaching

for the sky, petrichor and

warm pockets of air

surround before cool

drafts numb my cheeks

I think: I am enveloped

in an embrace.

Autumn leaves dance

my eyes graze

memories decayed, crumbles

soon a reservoir of

contemplation will blanket,

blessings light as

snowflakes, kisses up ahead.

Marketing in the Cannabis Industry

Did you know that Colorado voters approved medical marijuana laws in 2000 and also approved Amendment 64 to allow for recreational marijuana in 2012? As of January 2016 there were 424 recreational dispensaries, 1265 growers, and 370 edible manufacturers in Denver alone. Advertising for cannabis-related products or services is limited due to the Colorado Retail Marijuana Regulations. For example, television, radio and internet advertising are prohibited unless there is reliable evidence that no more than 30 percent of the audience is reasonably expected to be under the age of 21. This limits Cannabis company’s ability to have PPC advertising on AdWords, television or social media channels.

Other market industry trends include upcoming nation-wide elections for local and global marijuana and cannabis laws. In November 2016 Denver residents will vote on whether regular businesses like bars, cafes or yoga studios should be able to create indoor or outdoor areas to consume marijuana that their patrons would bring. In addition, 9 U.S. states will be voting in November on whether or not to legalize recreational or medical marijuana including California, Nevada, Arizona, Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, Arkansas, North Dakota and Montana. Currently 25 U.S. states allow for medical or recreational cannabis. Further, the legal marijuana market size in the United States is projected to grow to $7.1 billion in 2016, a 26% growth over the previous year.

I’ve recently taken a part-time job as a Brand Ambassador for Studio 420, a cannabis friendly creative agency in Denver specializing in branding, web design and digital marketing. I’ve had a chance to go to two educational cannabis industry networking events, Women Grow in Boulder and the CannaTech meet up in Denver.

I’m really happy to be a part of a company that has an awesome mission and philosophy –

Studio 420’s mission is to “work closely with it’s clients to define and develop their identity, position and presence in their marketplace. We help clients achieve sustained growth through ideas, strategies and solutions that influence consumer taste and shape culture.” Their philosophy includes establishing credibility for clients in the cannabis industry and to raise standards in the entire market. They value a company culture that focuses on cultivation, growth and transparency by training their partners in their approach and processes.

And here is a slide I put together for my digital marketing communication class at DU this fall term, it really underlines some basic critical features of great web design and why it’s important to building and nurturing your relationships with your customers.
